The Cocoon Cottage is a curved prefab vacation rental overlooking North Tenmile Lake in Oregon. Designer Kristie Wolf, known for her unconventional Airbnb properties including the Big Idaho Potato Hotel, imported this 28-foot pod from Iglucraft in Estonia and customized it with woodland-inspired decor. The property includes a secondary sauna pod on a separate deck near the water, plus a vintage tin cowboy tub for outdoor bathing.

Lessons from This Build
- International Prefab Shipping Costs Vary Wildly: What was quoted at $6,000 and 60 days ended up costing $40,000 and taking 9 months, demonstrating the unpredictability of importing prefab structures from overseas
- Unique Shapes Create Memorable Rentals: The curved pod design stands out in a crowded vacation rental market, attracting guests specifically seeking unusual accommodations
- Secondary Structures Add Value: Including a separate sauna pod and outdoor soaking tub creates multiple experiences within one property, justifying higher nightly rates
- Prefab Shells Allow Personal Customization: Starting with a manufactured structure and adding custom decor achieves both the efficiency of prefab construction and the character of individual design
- Waterfront Sites Maximize Pod Potential: The curved pod’s window wall captures lake views that justify the premium location, pairing the structure’s strengths with an appropriate setting
