When Pam and Jeff retired, they downsized into a park model tiny home at The Oaks on 37, a tiny home community in Mount Vernon, Texas. The move cut their expenses dramatically and let them retire debt-free. Their home has no loft, so everything, including a king-size bed, is on one level. That makes it a practical fit for retirement years, when climbing a ladder every night is the last thing you want. Tiny House Giant Journey toured the home.

Why a No-Loft Park Model Works for Retirement

Many tiny houses put the bed in a loft to save floor space. Pam and Jeff’s park model keeps everything on one floor instead. That means no ladders or steep stairs, easier cleaning, and a real bedroom with room for a king bed. From the outside, the home has two-tone siding, entry stairs, and a screened porch that adds extra living space when the weather is nice.

A Practical Kitchen and Cozy Living Area

The kitchen has white shaker cabinets, a farmhouse sink, and marble-look counters, with an island that opens to the living area. It’s a full-size kitchen setup for a couple who still likes to cook, and the open layout makes the home feel bigger than it is.

An Outdoor Retreat and a King Bedroom

The tour also shows the couple’s outdoor retreat and their bedroom, which fits a king-size bed. Living in a community gives them neighbors and shared space without the upkeep of a big house and yard.
