At Hotel Costa Verde in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, you can spend the night inside a real Boeing 727. The hotel renovated a 1965 fuselage that once flew for South African Airways and Avianca, then perched it on a pedestal above the jungle canopy with views out to the Pacific. Inside, it’s a two-bedroom suite lined in warm wood, with the original airplane windows still framing the trees.

A Retired Jet Above the Jungle

The red-and-white fuselage rises out of the tropical gardens, its nose and cockpit poking through the foliage. From the ocean-view terrace, guests can watch for sloths, toucans, and monkeys in the trees around them. A spiral staircase and a private entrance lead up into the plane.

Inside the Fuselage

Step off the polished wooden deck and through the airplane door, and the curved hull opens into a surprisingly roomy suite. The furniture is hand-carved teak from Java, Indonesia, and the arched wood ceiling follows the shape of the plane.

There are two air-conditioned bedrooms, one with two queen beds and the other with one queen, and each has its own private bathroom. The suite also has flat-screen TVs, a kitchen with a microwave, a dining area with a bar, and a lounge with leather chairs.
