A Luxury BC Tiny House with a Soaking Tub and U-Shaped Kitchen

This luxury tiny home was built by Newhouse Micro Homes and spent several years earning its keep as an Airbnb in East Kootenay, British Columbia — which is the most useful thing about it. A home that has run as a vacation rental has been stress-tested by strangers, and the design choices that survived that are the ones worth copying.

The U-shaped kitchen is the centerpiece, wrapping three walls in counter and cabinet space so two people can work without collisions. The bathroom carries a proper tub with a tiled shower surround, a residential toilet and vanity, and a washer/dryer unit. A thin electric fireplace sits under the wall-mounted TV, the couch converts to a second bed, and the loft bedroom is ringed with windows.

Editor’s note: this home was listed at $80K (land not included) in 2023 and is no longer available. We’ve kept the tour up as a reference on rental-proven tiny house design. Current listings are below.

What Running as an Airbnb Teaches You

  • A U-shaped kitchen is the small-space upgrade guests notice. Wrapping three walls maximizes counter and storage per square foot and lets two people cook at once.
  • A real tub is a booking driver. Tubs are among the first things cut from tiny builds and among the most searched-for amenities in nightly rentals.
  • A convertible couch quietly doubles occupancy. Sleeping four instead of two widens both your rental audience and your resale pool at almost no cost in floor space.
  • Residential fixtures survive guests. A standard toilet and vanity are easier to service and replace than RV-spec parts — which matters once strangers are using them.
