Building a Tiny House Turned Her into a Carpenter

Marie discovered the world of tiny homes through YouTube — and that single spark changed everything. What began as simple curiosity turned into a full DIY build that challenged her, taught her new skills, and ultimately transformed her life. With determination, trial and error, and a whole lot of heart, she created a beautiful tiny home perfectly tailored to her needs.

The experience was so empowering that she pursued carpentry professionally. Today, she’s a carpentry apprentice and teaches other women the craft at WomeNZShed — a full-circle success story born from one bold decision to build her own space.

  • She fit a washer/dryer unit inside to eliminate the need for a laundromat.
  • A large deck more than doubles her square footage and allows her to host family and friends.
  • Her bedroom has a built-in bed on the first floor with beautiful views out of a giant window.
  • In the bathroom, she put both a marine and composting toilet, so she’s set for wherever she moves her home!
