A Pre-Owned 2018 Escape Traveler XL with a First-Floor Bedroom

The Traveler is the layout that made ESCAPE’s name, and this 2018 Traveler XL shows why owners hold onto them. Thirty feet long (35 with the hitch), 8.5 wide and 13’5″ tall, it carries 255 square feet on the first floor plus 89 square feet across the lofts, and it wears the RVIA seal as a travel trailer.

The classic Traveler arrangement puts a bedroom on the first floor with wrap-around shelving, and adds a loft above the full bathroom that works as a second bedroom, storage, or an office. The kitchen even includes a dishwasher. At 11,000-13,000 lbs empty it needs a Class V hitch and a 2-5/16″ ball — a serious tow, and worth knowing before you buy at this size.

Editor’s note: this pre-owned unit was listed by its owner in Carrollton, Texas at $87,500 (against an original $94K) in early 2024, and it has sold. Current listings are linked below.

What to Check on a Pre-Owned Traveler

  • The tow rating is the buying constraint. At 11,000-13,000 lbs empty this needs a Class V hitch and a properly rated vehicle — budget for the truck, not just the house.
  • An RVIA seal decides where it can live. Many parks, lenders, and insurers require it, and it cannot be added after the fact.
  • A first-floor bedroom plus a loft is the flexible combination. You get a room without a ladder and still have space above for guests, storage, or an office.
  • Owner resale holds value here. Asking $87,500 against $94,000 new after six years is remarkably little depreciation — a signal about how these are built.
