John Weatherbe works as a professional photographer, and he wanted a van conversion that would take him to remote locations and allow him to get epic nature photos. At first, he tried converting the van himself, but he eventually decided that wasn’t his expertise and he had it professionally finished — and the results are amazing!
He went with an army green exterior and dark gray/wood tone interior. It feels modern, rugged, and cozy! He has a great set-up for storing his gear and “working from home.” Check out the tour below!

He doesn’t cook much, but he does have a portable cooktop he can put next to the sink.
His “short queen” bed looks like a cozy nook!
He has two large pull-out drawers and a table that pulls out as well.

Highlights:
- John Weatherbe has lived full-time and part-time in his custom-built 4×4 Sprinter van for the past three years.
- He chose to go without solar panels so he can enjoy his entire rooftop deck!
- He has an awesome garage area with pull-out drawers and a back table. There’s also an outdoor shower option.
- While he was going to convert the van himself, he got into it and realized it was more than he wanted to take on. So he got a professional builder to craft this incredible design.
- Even though some people might consider the interior too dark, John loves the deep gray with wood tones.
