Their $10K DIY Budget Van Conversion

While it’s fun to see brand-new vans luxuriously outfitted with all the latest technology, that kind of rig is a pipe dream for most of us. But this $10,000 DIY conversion of a 1991 Ford Econoline is far more attainable—and inspiring! The team at Tiny Home Tours purchased this van for $5,000 and spent another $5,000 on materials to complete a total overhaul.

The team removed most interior features and rebuilt the cabinetry to fit the space. They salvaged the original blue couch and the toilet and adhered to the 1991 blue-and-orange color scheme. You can watch the entire transformation in the video below!

VIDEO TOUR: $10k DIY Van Build – How We Built It On Budget

Highlights:

  • Tiny Home Tours converted this 1991 Ford Econoline for $10,000, including the van’s cost.
  • The van itself cost $5,000, leaving them with $5,000 left to convert the interior.
  • Most of the van’s original components had to be removed, but they retained the original toilet and couch.
  • They added a budget solar system to the rig that even runs the A/C unit!
  • Using leftover scrap metal from other bus builds, they were able to address some nasty rust at the bottom of the van.
