Alice & Ambrose wanted to try out an off-grid lifestyle in South Africa, and they have truly made it happen! Even without electricity (or solar!) they’ve been thriving with their rainwater catchment system, wood-fired hot water tank, large garden, and storage shed for overflow pantry goods and clothing.

All in all, they’ve spent about $16,000 on the site, caravan, and conversion — which is quite impressive! Ambrose is a professional stand-up comedian, so this is a lively and exciting tour. Enjoy!

Highlights:

• Alice is French and Ambrose is South African, and they wanted to live off-grid on their own land in South Africa!
• A caravan gave them a great “home” and they’ve converted it to meet their needs. It still didn’t have enough storage, however, so they have a garden shed for extra clothing and food.
• Their goal is to eat entirely from food that they grow, so they’ve built a lovely garden with a handcrafted archway.
• Since the caravan doesn’t have a lot of room for entertaining, they made a large patio space for gatherings with friends and family — and for Ambrose’s breakdancing!
• Without electricity or solar, they rely on a wood-fired hot water tank for their outdoor showers.
