Their Reclaim-Built Off-Grid Tiny House

You’re going to love this reclaimed-material home built by Amie and Tom. The house sits on a beautiful piece of land in Wales, where they also run a forest school where children can spend their days exploring in nature. Not only is the home entirely off-grid — with a water catchment system, composting toilet, and solar panels — it was built almost entirely from discarded materials that they resued.

The house has a lovely living room space with a couch that folds into a double bed and lots of clever built-in storage. They have a table space that doubles as extra counter space, and two lofts. One loft has a clever office space and the other one houses their bedroom. Enjoy the tour below!

Highlights:

  • Amie and Tom wanted to settle down and find a house with less of an impact on the land. A tiny home seemed like a somewhat crazy, but amazing option.
  • They also wanted to begin a forest school, so they joined a lot of local Facebook groups and found people who were interested in having the school and tiny house on their property.
  • The couple has an amazing grey water filtration system that uses plants to filter the water, and they catch rainwater and use solar power.
  • So much of the home is reclaimed items that others were throwing away. The furniture is largely made of bed slats, and the flooring was being tossed out by a neighbor. Even the greenhouse is built from an old shower surround!
