Joey’s story isn’t one you’d expect — he nailed the “dream job” of working in mechanical and biomedical engineering for the FBI in Washington, D.C. — and then realized it wasn’t for him! He got a different job working as a software engineer that ended up going remote in 2020 — and before he knew it, Joey was buying and converting a van.
He’s lived in the van you’ll see below for three years on and off. In the “off” time, he’s been backpacking around the world, living even more simply than he does in his rig. He designed it to stand up to all kinds of weather, and just wait until you see the neat way he included a shower, closet, and pantry into his home on wheels.

Highlights:
- Joey’s van has a fixed bed, but it folds up into a couch to either face into the van or face the doors that can open up to the gorgeous outdoors.
- He has a shower stall and toilet, but his closet and pantry fold into the same space when he’s not using the shower.
- The van has two swivel seats, so he can work from “home” and move his Lagun table where he needs it.
- He has a monitor that moves throughout the van for watching movies and doing work.
- To maximize available counter space, he situated the sink near the bed and stows his induction cooktop in a drawer when not in use.
