Cat and her daughter lived in an apartment in Brisbane, when they were told they had to leave within 8 weeks because the landlord sold the apartment. That and the rising cost of rent was the final straw that convinced Cat to get back to her roots and back out to the countryside!
After designing the perfect tiny house for the two of them, they moved the Eucalyptus-green THOW onto a friend’s gorgeous property in Queensland, Australia. It has everything the two of them need, including space for all her daughter’s toys (her daughter didn’t want to downsize them). What do you think of this lovely tiny house?

Lessons from This Build
- Housing Instability Can Spark Change: Being given just 8 weeks to move pushed Cat to finally pursue tiny house living—sometimes crisis creates opportunity
- Kids Don’t Have to Downsize Everything: Cat’s daughter kept all her toys by designing adequate storage—tiny living doesn’t mean sacrificing what matters most to children
- Catwalks Connect Loft Spaces: A catwalk between bedrooms lets family members stay connected while maintaining separate sleeping areas
- Friend’s Land Offers Affordable Parking: Parking on a friend’s property gave Cat a beautiful location without the cost of buying land
- Partial Off-Grid Works: Composting toilet and rainwater catchment reduce utility dependence without going fully off-grid
