It all started when Mike and Kerry’s neighbor called up wanting the old car in their front yard. Mike joked he’d trade it for the neighbor’s bus, and within hours the neighbor showed up driving the bus! The project started and the couple eventually decided to hit the road.
They were honest about the costs — while they set out to spend only $15K, in order to make the bus into a home they really loved, they ended up spending $60K! But, Kerry says their skoolie is specially designed to make her life battling with childhood PTSD easier, and that’s priceless.
The mosaic tile shower she made from dinner plates is definitely the coolest shower I’ve seen to date! And just wait to see the Dutch door.

What a great job! This is a home to be proud of.
Absolutely love this build. You had me at “dutch door” and “mosaic shower.” But I’m thinking 809 MPG must be a typo? If not, I’m OMW to help with the patent process…
Good video. And yes, the shower is a delightful work of art. I’m impressed. I love the Dutch door, and the sliding panels over the bedroom windows. (The video says 8 to 9 miles per gallon. Too bad! Much prefer 809.)
I think this is my favorite bus build. Great job and I understand about the PTSD. So many people are suffering with it! Congrats! Great job, beautiful home.
What a lovely couple. The way they accommodated each other’s needs in the decision to transition to Skokie life us inspiring.
