Sometimes adding on to an older building with something contemporary goes wrong, but this hybrid vintage-shed-meets-modern-tiny-home perfectly combines the two eras. The older portion holds a comfy couch and eating area with a coffee bar, while the addition houses a queen-sized bed and another seating area.

In the addition you’ll be wowed by reclaimed 9-foot barn windows that still have the wavy glass in them, giving a mystical view of the woods beyond. There’s a separate, private bath house just steps away that has a clawfoot tub and old-fashioned sink. What do you think?

Details:

Recently renovated, our “tiny shed” has all the feel of a modern home, yet all the coziness of a cabin in the woods! The stunning 9 foot vintage windows that look out to the woods give the feeling that you are deep in the woods and feature an amazing view to wake up to! The queen-sized bed has a Tuft and Needle mattress and all cotton bedding for a comfortable night’s sleep!
The original tiny shed space is now a sweet little living room with a dining/workspace. We have a coffee bar with locally roasted coffee. There is also a microwave and a mini-fridge/freezer. The sofa is a pull out futon bed for an extra guest space.
A new remote control air conditioner/heater keeps the space very comfortable during your stay along with a modern ceiling fan.
Just outside the front door (located in the back corner of our barn) is a full private bath with a pretty modern/vintage style. The cast iron tub and sink are in keeping with the touch of vintage in this modern bath!
This is an incredible glamping experience with all the comforts of a high-end hotel! It is the perfect quiet, private escape in the country, yet close enough to town to enjoy the many great restaurants, shops and activities our great city has to offer!

  1. Cute but having to go outside to use the bathroom in the pouring rain, freezing cold, snow, sleet or hail storm, middle of the night especially if you have a animal that might try to escape would be a real pain in the rear. Would have been better to connect it to the rest of the house.

    1. But that’s not always an option as local rules and/or costs may prohibit it… So depends on the location, type of zoning, etc.

  2. I love it except for the separate bathroom. Here in Phoenix we don’t have to deal with cold weather but we do have scorpions and other critters. I definitely wouldn’t want to go out at night to go to the restroom and deal with ‘wildlife’.

Just take part of that bedroom space & turn it into the bathroom and it’s perfect.

    1. I agree with you, Andrea. I wouldn’t want to go outside. I’m assuming they didn’t have a choice in the matter for this particular build and it certainly is cute (but that black wall is going to get all “water spotty” after a time). I wouldn’t want 2 couches, so that area could have easily had a bathroom at that end of the bedroom, though it would have been tight. It would, however, have really closed in the space.

I am concerned with the water tightness and climate control of both the windows and the edges around the shed. Though cute, those windows don’t look like they open and that’s a huge issue with someone actually living there (especially sleeping there) in the event of a fire, you MUST have operational windows. I’m hoping that short one is a casement/opening window.

I love seeing what cute things people come up with, and this is extremely cute and well decorated. Maybe some things were salvaged (like the tall windows) and they may have trouble keeping this cool tiny house cool/warm depending on where it is built/located. This is very clever and I hope they do well with it.
