Seth’s tiny house is so cool! I’ve been following his YouTube channel since the start. He’s come such a long way and is an inspiration to other people seeking tiny like myself. Well done, Seth!
Alex,
I’m enjoying the newsletter but would you be able to refer me to one that has more ideas for tiny houses on foundations? OR can any of the THOW be adapted to foundations?
There are THOWs that can be taken off the trailer and placed on a foundation, it’s a feature some builders support… Or you can simply build a foundation around the trailer…
But if you intend to place one on a foundation then designs are more flexible if it starts off as a foundation based design to begin with…
They can range from traditional site built, to prefab homes that can be manufactured and then delivered on site where it is then placed on a foundation.
Just verify what your local zoning allows and you can go from there…
Very nice Seth , wonderful job .
ANY THOW can be built on a permanent/semi-permanent foundation as long as the local codes will allow.
Ah, but there is the rub. If zoning allows. And that is what is wrong with the world today. People can object to what you plan to do. Even if it conforms to council regulations. And money, unfortunately, talks.
Would have been super-cool to have a video tour of the inside of the house after it was set up!
Where’s the faucet to the bathroom sink? And I would like to see the whole bedroom or whatever is behind the bookcase next to the living room. But I like what I can see.
Check his youtube channel and Instagram page, he basically documented nearly everything as he built it… Lots of videos to look through…
Hey everyone! Thanks for the encouragement 🙂 I am still building as of this post so not everything is finished. Good time to join up as I will be continuing video posting soon. I’ve tried to enjoy my summer some, spent 3.5 weeks in Italy and Switzerland, had a much needed nasal surgery, and sailed to the Bahamas earlier in the year. So my project has slowed a bit. There are many more photos on instagram 🙂 or http://www.facebook.com/hermstead <—Don't check as much
Hi Seth. I was a HUGE fan of the Hermstead video series you had on YouTube. I’ve noticed that everything’s since been taken down. Is there any way I can obtain a copy of that Pantry Slider/Bathroom Door video? I’m currently designing a shipping container build and I want that feature to be a focal point. Feel free to e-mail me ([email protected]) if possible. Thanks in advance and hope life’s treating you kindly : )
Hi, This THOW looks like it’s wider than the standard 8.5′, and I wanted to ask if it is? Thanks.
Very nice, and great to see a trailer being reused. From the outside this looks to be permanent, so depending on zoning laws I would see no problems with building a THoW and then building around the outside to look as though it’s in a foundation. This would also mean you could exceed the general width and height rules because it is basically a permanent dwelling by any other name whilst leaving the opportunity to have it easily moved on a flatbed truck if you have to move. Nothing is guaranteed and if you should have to move then it is much easier if you can just load it all on a flatbed and take it all with you, beds, kitchen, the lot without needing to spend hours/days packing, moving, and unpacking again. From one who’s been there more times than I want to remember.
Congratulations for having your beautiful home honored on the site. I followed each of your videos. End results are fantastic. Love it.
