Building His Wheelchair-Friendly Box Truck Home

Ben was a construction worker who loved to ski when an accident on the slopes left him wheelchair-bound. It took many years of physical therapy and new perspectives on life to urge him into van life. He chose a box truck and spent 18 months converting it himself for about $50,000.

His van meets all of his needs, with a bathroom, a kitchen with accessibility countertops, an elevator bed, and a super high-tech chair. Enjoy his inspiring story below!

Wow! What an amazing attitude and gift for life. You are quite the inspiration. Your van is wonderfully outfitted especially the sleeping and seating and electronic controls. You’ve thought of everything and built it beautifully. I love all the stainless steel in the kitchen and the checker board pattern under the bed. It’s just a really clever build, and I’m glad you have such a sweet companion to share the adventures. Safe travels.
