This is Chris and Anne’s van mansion, a tiny home on wheels built on a 2003 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 T1N chassis. This conversion is what happens when capable tech people build their own camper van!

The “Vansion” is a 2003 Mercedes Sprinter 2500 T1N with 250,000 miles on its million-mile engine, fully converted into an off-grid, tech-loaded home on wheels.
The van features 1,000 watts of rooftop solar, 10kWh of lithium battery storage, and a custom EV charging setup that can charge the system at 3,000 watts using public EV chargers.
They use a modified industrial telecom power supply to convert AC to 48V DC, tricking a solar charge controller into fast-charging the batteries, an efficient and budget-friendly hack.
The van includes a full kitchen with induction cooktop, microwave/air fryer, full sink, dishwasher, central vacuum system, large fridge/freezer, and IKEA cabinetry for a cozy and functional cooking experience.
The back area converts into a full-size bed, includes a 32″ TV, gaming console, soundbar, and hidden board games. There’s a dual-screen workstation setup and underfloor storage for pantry and wardrobe needs.

Controls include dimmers, a diesel heater, MaxxAir fan, smart inverter switch, water tank monitors, Google Home, and Wi-Fi-connected surveillance and remote monitoring systems.
A window AC unit runs off-grid, a retractable residential awning includes a misting system for hot climates, and multiple fans and Starlink internet improve daily livability.
They installed a composting toilet with a bidet and modified urine diversion to a grey tank. The shower is rarely used thanks to Planet Fitness memberships but works well when needed.
The van carries a 5-person inflatable boat with a trolling motor, an e-bike, and an off-road scooter, maximizing exploration capabilities.
Ann met Chris after hearing about his van; they bonded over it, began building it together, and now live and work full-time on the road as freelance creatives under the name “The Rolling Jones.”
Another fun fact about their van is that they installed a snorkel air filter on their van, not because they expect to go through deep waters, but just to keep their engine filter cleaner longer after traveling on dirt roads. Pretty clever!
