Here’s The Cathouse, built by Movable Roots as a custom creation for a couple and their four cats. This house has one of the most unusual layouts I’ve seen, complete with a sneaky back bathroom well-separated from the living and kitchen area for privacy.
The home features a wind-sensitive awning that retracts when gusts get bad, and a shed-style roof. You’ll walk into the living area where there’s room for comfortable chairs or a sofa, and then turn right into the stunning kitchen. Just wait until you see the color of the cabinets!
There’s a lofted bedroom with room at the top step to stand and change, and a catwalk between lofts for those four-legged friends. Enjoy the video tour below, and get in touch with Movable Roots for your own custom build here.

Are These the Prettiest THOW Cabinets Ever?
I think few apartments have a kitchen this nice.
The tile backsplash adds a modern feel.
That nook looks like the perfect napping spot for cats.
There’s oodles of storage space with all these cabinets.
A ladder allows access to this loft.
While the back loft has storage steps galore.
From the main loft the cats (and humans) can access the second one.
A skylight allows extra sunlight in!
You can stand before hopping into the king-sized bed.
No space wasted here! Notice the cat door.
These steps go upstairs and to the back bathroom.
Another look at the catwalk.
And now to the bathroom…
Here is the bathroom area.
View from the second loft.

Really nice layout. I really like the passage to the second loft. I’m not a fan of ladders unless its to a rarely used storage areas.
Totally understand that!
I love it! Not mad about the blue – I get bored of color so quickly lol – and I’d probably opt for a sofa over the chairs but this is an incredible layout with all that storage too. I’m not sure how the ladder would work with the seating below, maybe that’s why they have movable seating. But I wouldn’t have to worry about that too much because my human cat girl would spend as much time on that catwalk as the furry kind!
Movable Roots, I believe, are located in central Florida, maybe near Melbourne. I’m about 3 hours north of them in Gainesville. I’ve been researching THOW for a little over 5 years now and this is almost exactly what I want.
I’d also opt for a comfy couch versus 2 chairs but I want my loft bedrooms more enclosed for privacy. Other than that, this layout is exactly what I’ve been searching for so thank you for featuring this one! I think I’ve finally found the tiny house model and builder I’ve been looking for!
Oh that’s so great to hear, Melissa! I am so glad we did our job!
Yes, they’re located at 834 Washburn Rd. Melbourne FL 32934 in the heart of the Melbourne Industrial Market. There are three I-95 Interchanges within a 3-mile radius of the property making is easily accessible to the rest of Brevard County & Central Florida.

They’re a high end full custom builder, can even metal fabricate the trailer custom to the build and are known for making extremely strong and durable structures, and they’ve made some of the biggest THOWs…
I think this house check all of the boxes on my list, beautifully done and love the colors inside and out. I may have found my builder.
A couple things I did not notice. A place to eat, no oven, and is there a washer/dryer? Loved the setup and everything looked great but those were the couple things I missed or wasn’t able to see. Is there pricing anywhere on a model like this?
They’re very high end custom builders. They essentially fabricate everything and engineer their homes to extremely high standards. So you’d have to contact them for present pricing, but like gas and just about everything else construction costs have gone up the last year. So their prices would be even higher now but at the time this was built one of their custom 28′ tiny homes would start around $108k and depending on the fit and finishes the price would increase from there…
Owner of this one only wanted a range and microwave convection oven, which is also the range hood vent… While there’s a combo washer/dryer in the bathroom… Builder’s website has more photos than the article here and shows the bathroom in more detail…
Thank you Jim. I did go out to their website and saw more pictures of this unit and saw the washer/dryer combo. I understand the prices of everything going up but as like most people not happy about it but not much you can do.
