Four Years of Fifth Wheel Living in Nashville

Four years ago, Kirs and Devin wanted to escape the rising rent in Nashville and decided to go tiny and move into a fifth wheel. They renovated that one, and later moved into a toy hauler. Most recently the couple purchased a gorgeous 44 ft. fifth wheel that hasn’t needed any work and they are loving their RV life.

The two find places to park in the area, and don’t travel right now, but they are financially free (and their home is awesome!). They share the trailer with their three dogs. Be sure to enjoy the tour and the Q&A they did with us at the end of the post.

Where are you from?

Nashville

How did you first become seriously interested in tiny homes?

We wanted to beat the cost of living in Nashville, so we moved into an Rv!

What type of tiny house do you have or are you working on?

We have been fulltime in a Rv for four years. This is our third Rv. First a fifthwheel, then toyhauler pull behind and now another fifthwheel.

Why did you go tiny? What are you hoping to get out of it for yourself?

To enjoy life, less work and more play.

How long did it take you to finish your tiny house?

Our first Rv took 2 months, our second took 1 week and our current Rv we aren’t remodeling. Just decorating with my style.

Did you do it yourself? Who helped?

Our first Rv our friend helped us, second we did everything besides the painting because I hired someone and our third Rv we haven’t done any projects.

How did you figure out where to put it? Do you keep it in one place or do you move around?

We are stationary! Googling campgrounds and checking Craig lists for private land with hookups.

What’s been the most challenging part about your tiny house so far?

When we first got into tiny living, storage was a big issue. Trying to purge things and get settled. Then we moved into our second Rv which was 18ft and it really helped with letting go of things and being content with less. Now we are in our third Rv and has TOO MUCH storage.

What benefits are you experiencing from it so far?

Learning to have less and appreciating what I do have, opportunities with businesses because of the lifestyle being intriguing, and going part time at work because we have lower bills.

What helpful piece of advice would you give to others who are interested in going tiny? What mistakes could you help them avoid?

If you’re going to paint, hire a professional painter. They can get it done in a day or two usually and it’ll save you so much time. Definitely worth the money. I don’t mean with little paint projects, just the entire Rv if it’s going to be painted.

    Hard to believe it’s not a larger home — very perfect for them and their pups—- super-cozy!
