Charlotte and Ken wanted to hit the road, so they purchased a 14-year-old box truck and transformed it into their home on wheels! They got in touch with us to share their story, which you can read after the photo tour of their home.
What I love about this conversion is that they did it on a budget, and included a Murphy bed system that transforms their living room into a bedroom at night. They also have a spacious kitchen, complete with an oven and stove.
Plus, their build has a shower and a composting toilet, so they never need to stop at the gym to get clean (or pee outside). Hope you enjoy the photos and their 30-second video tour below. Follow them on Instagram @offthemainroad_.

Charlotte & Ken Share Their Story:
We are Charlotte and Ken from Belgium. Two people who are madly in love and share a passion for traveling 👩❤️👨 So instead of following the beaten path we chose to wander off the main road. 🚚
We bought a 14 year old boxtruck, converted it into a tiny house on wheels and left off to see what’s over the hill! We’ve always been inspired by tiny houses, so within our passion for traveling, it felt naturally to build our own little house on wheels. 😊
So we’ve turned our old Mercedes luton sprinter into a small apartment. All this had to be done with a relatively small budget, but we think we’ve pulled it off pretty well! 🙈 As we were planning to live in it full-time, we wanted to have the comfort like we would have in a regular home. Because we really like cooking we’ve installed a 4 burner gas stove and a fridge that runs on electricity, battery and gas. This way we always have a working fridge.
To have the sleeping comfort of a bed at home we chose to use our regular mattress and simply flip it up to the back of the van to create a living room. Which is one of the advantages of a boxtruck. There’s enough space! 🍀
Our home would not be complete without a shower and toilet of course. We installed a boiler, so we always have hot water. For our toilet we chose to use a compost toilet. It’s cheaper, we don’t use chemicals and we don’t need a special place to empty it. All we need is a shovel…
As mentioned before the budget we have was not so big, so we don’t have really fancy camper furniture or something. Our bookshelf is an old wine crate, our herbs and spices shelfs are made from an old CD rack and left over building materials. The window we’ve placed is normal house window simply because camper windows are more expensive.
Even the shower is DIY. We’ve bought a big enough plastic crate and covered the walls with pvc sheets and made our own shower cabin.
For us this made the process of converting even more satisfying. Because we had to be more creative with the tools we had than just buy things… 😊
We would totally recommend it and we’re very happy we’ve made this life changing decision. There’s so much you can realize in a small space… To us it’s the future of living! 🔥

This is a delightful way to travel, and such a delightful couple. They achieved their goals to enhance their living. Good use of space, color, and not tearing it down to build it up. Being a truck/van kind of woman, I find this very appealing. Have owned a motorhome, conversion van, pull trailer, and a pickup with a sleeper bed, and the truck box needs to be a serious consideration for anyone. The interior has more height, and easy to drive and park. I like that it does not look like an RV. Applause for incorporating a toilet and shower within. I have tried it both ways, and there is nothing that compares to a warm bathroom at 2 a.m.
Enjoy. Celebrate. Stay safe.

Woohoo to a warm bathroom at 2 a.m.!
I love this. It’s perfect. I really have a thing for box trucks. Yes. Cute couple too!!
