  1. This is the only way for tall guys in the nowadays narrow vans, sleeping in driving direction beside standing headroom. This one has it all, a lounge area, shower and toilet.
But as to my knowledge the Volkswagen isn’t the van with max headroom but the ford is.
    I like it.

  2. Do people actually use that toilet, with no privacy, within earshot of another person using it? Worse yet would be the smell. How? Why?

    1. One way or another people do have to deal with their biological needs. Otherwise, they’ll deal with far worse consequences…

  3. I know all about biological needs and what happens if those needs are not attended to. It is absolutely disgusting to even consider using a toilet for all of our needs 5′ from where another person is sleeping. The smell doesn’t magically disappear and the sound is with you for the rest of your life. It would be like sharing an outhouse. There isn’t even a vent. It is sick and it is wrong in any circumstance. I still want to hear the perspective of those on the receiving end of this awful trend.

    1. You are, as I’ve had to deal with many different types of situations throughout my life that included situations like this, and no, it’s not a trend, it’s just people dealing with reality of life as people have had to do throughout history and throughout the world. The simple fact of the matter is it will get far worse if there wasn’t a toilet and you had nowhere else to go and not everyone has a choice about it…

There’s just no getting around that, if you have to spend any significant amount of time in a vehicle or small structure, at some point you’re going to have to deal with it because your body isn’t going to take a time out just because it’s inconvenient for your sensibilities…

Besides, the van can be vented. There’s the windows and the two skylights that can all be opened and you can install a max air vent in either one or both of the skylights, if you can’t wait for it to be naturally vented, and it’s not hard to vent a small space. There’s also numerous ways to deal with odors and neutralize smells very quickly.

While it’s a porta potti, so you’re only trapped in there if in the city, public area, unsafe area, etc. and can’t take it out into the woods, as it is a camping type toilet that can be moved, but that just won’t always be an option and that’s just part of the deal with nomadic living that your options will often be limited and not everyone can just wait till they get somewhere that they can have access to an alternative option…
