The Worst Tiny Cabin Design/Construction (Dangerous)

This post contains affiliate links.

This is an example of how NOT to build a cabin! It’s the worst tiny cabin that Derek Diedricksen has ever encountered and stayed at.

You can see a few shots of just how bad it is below and you can watch the entire video with Deek to learn about all of the terrible design and construction mistakes in this cabin, and how it is for sure going to collapse into the ground because of the way water is running into it. Yikes. Can you believe there are places out there like this for rent?

The Worst Tiny Cabin Vacation with Deek… How NOT To Build Your Tiny House…

Video – The Worst Tiny House We’ve Seen w/ Derek Diedricksen

HOW many WRONG things/mistakes can YOU find in this cabin?

I’m not mentioning the town this is in, just the state, and in NO WAY intend to insult the owners of this cabin should they see this (they rent it from afar and I’m not even sure they know the scope/condition of it to be honest). Anyway, I’m hoping that this video can help show some the importance of building to safety codes and that things, when in doubt, should always be overbuilt if anything. This cabin/tiny house (listed as a tiny house rental) is just outright dangerous in the way it was built and will not last. Yes, I’ve even mentioned this to the owners in an email (but never heard back from them). I never met the owners in person either. Again, to protect their privacy, the exact locale of the cabin will not be given- nor the names of the owners. If anything, this video will educate some and potentially even save a future life, as a cabin built like this is bound to collapse. I mean no ill will against the owners, or their business, as again, people viewing won’t even know where this cabin is- and side note- the house number you see isn’t even accurate- not sure what its significance is.

I watched the video on how “Not” to build a tiny house. I was glad I saw it. I’ve worked on older homes & saw some scary things doing historical preservation. It’s amazing what is done in the name of construction. Which means, if anyone is think of doing their own tiny home, please learn what to do, and research the person who says they know to make sure they do. If one hires someone or a company.

Either no building codes and no inspection, or built without a permit. You cant do anything you darn please, whether you live in the middle of the city, or the middle of the desert. As i see it, many tiny housers would rather avoid the law than obey it.

This is crucial and educational information for all who plan to build their own tiny house or to buy from a builder… a good reminder to do your homework/due diligence when it comes to researching! It might save lives…Thanks Deek! I view this as a public service announcement…

Why is there effort to conceal or protect the owner of this structure? It is extremely dangerous and is being rented out to unknowing vacationers who could be seriously injured. This structure needs to be condemned immediately.

Obviously not built to any local code, ergo, illegal. Were permits pulled, and was the cinstruction inspected by a licensed person? No mention of the status of the land: owned by the structure’s builder? Rented or leased by the house owner? Why is such important information usually missing from tiny house stories?
An aside, fwiw: a house defines the structure. A home describes the relationships of the residents within the structure.

I have two questions for Deek……. What “enticed” you to stay here?? And, is it a private listing or is it on AirBnb? I ask that because it would be interesting to see the ratings. I am speechless at this total lack of build knowledge! Just speechless!

If this shack is being rented to the public, and it is indeed dangerous, I would feel a moral
obligation to report it to the authorities in that jurisdiction. Because if it’s truly dangerous imagine the roof collapsing on some sleeping children or a family dying from a fire in the middle of the night. I’m
not super picky – some places have ridiculously overly strict building codes & permitting systems and I once rented a garage at a beach town so I could have a cheap weekend surfing getaway. But seeing those photos worries me that there’s a public in public safety, and they really should be protected from this thing. Also tje ushers are making money! They have a responsibility, and a legal one, to make sure their income generator isn’t a death trap. or at least a total rip off.
