Six cabins in the woods, each a different way to sit among the trees: a creek-side off-grid build, a father-daughter mountain cabin, a Catskills alpine that sleeps four in under 500 square feet, a forest-ready Bosun on an island lot, a Wisconsin cottage with a stock-tank tub, and a dark modern cabin in Mississippi.
Brothers & Dad, Off-Grid by a Creek
These brothers and their dad already had a $1,000 truck camper. This time they put a whole cabin by a creek: solar on the roof, a pump that pulls water from the stream, a loft with a full-sized bed, and a porch swing on the covered deck.
Deanna and Her Dad, on the Mountain
Deanna Beesley wanted mountain living. She and her retired dad, plus a couple of contractors, built this tiny cabin in the woods around her day job. Dark wood, tall trees, a house that had to wait for evenings and weekends.

A Small Alpine in the Catskills
Kerhonkson, at the base of the Catskills. From the trees it reads as a quaint alpine cabin. Inside it is modern, and it sleeps four in just under 500 square feet. The 1970s rustic lodge interior got a recent update. Fire pit and chairs sit in the yard.

The Bosun, Ready for the Forest
The Bosun was drawn for a woman leaving Vancouver for a remote island: dense woods, ocean air, a lot that drops into a gulley. A small house for a quieter life. The image is the cabin as designed, set into the trees.

A Dark-Blue Cottage in Wisconsin
Near the main house, but its own spot: dark blue siding, a red door, a stone path through the garden. Inside, a couch and an electric fireplace. The loft has globe twinkle lights. The bathroom has a stock-tank tub.

A Dark Cabin in the Mississippi Woods
Sleek dark walls, big windows, a simple layout in the Mississippi trees. The one we called a real-life postcard: unplug, keep the essentials, let the woods do the rest.
Which woods first?
Which of these six would you like to stay in most?
