The Birch House is a 28-foot DIY tiny home on wheels built in Arlington, Washington, and its whole identity comes from one material choice: Norwegian birch throughout the interior. Pale, tight-grained birch is the backbone of Scandinavian interiors precisely because it bounces light around a small room, and paired with an all-white galley kitchen it makes the inside feel considerably larger than 28 feet.
The layout is straightforward and well judged. A loft bedroom is reached by storage stairs rather than a ladder, a living area sits behind sliding glass doors that pull in a lot of daylight, and the bathroom carries subway tile with a rain shower. Underneath, it’s serious: a triple-axle Iron Eagle trailer built specifically for tiny houses, carrying roughly 14,000 lbs at 28 ft long, 7.5 ft wide, and 13.5 ft tall, with a metal roof, manual jacks, a 25-gallon onboard water tank, and an instant water heater.

What the Birch House Gets Right
- One material can carry a whole interior. Committing to birch throughout is cheaper and more coherent than mixing finishes, and pale wood is the classic small-space choice for a reason.
- Storage stairs beat a ladder on any build you plan to keep. They cost floor area and return it as drawers, while making the loft usable long-term.
- Sliding glass doors are the highest-impact window you can fit. They light the living area and visually annex whatever is outside.
- A purpose-built trailer is worth paying for. A triple-axle Iron Eagle designed for tiny houses is the difference between a home that tows predictably and one that does not.
- Selling a DIY build as-is is the honest move. Disclosing unfinished work up front sets accurate expectations and protects both sides.
