Escape Extra-Long Boho: A 23-Ft One-Floor Tiny House with Shou Sugi Ban

At 23 feet, this was the stretched version of ESCAPE’s Boho, and the extra length goes exactly where it should. Like every Boho, there’s no loft — instead you get a queen bed on the main floor beneath a picture window, and the added feet mean the bed no longer crowds the living space.

The exterior wears shou sugi ban-style paneling, the charred-look finish that hides weathering and road grime far better than a pale siding. Inside, open upper shelving runs around most of the walls — a deliberate choice over upper cabinets, which visually drop the ceiling in a narrow space. The kitchen carries white stone countertops, a stainless range with hood, and a tall refrigerator/freezer. The bathroom has a flush toilet, a fiberglass shower, and a frosted door. Climate is handled by a mini-split heat pump with on-demand propane hot water.

Editor’s note: this unit was listed at $61,042 (including a $4.1K discount) in early 2023 and has sold. The Boho line is still in production — current listings are linked below.

Why the Extra Length Matters on a No-Loft Design

  • Loft-free layouts trade sleeping space for headroom. You get full ceiling height everywhere, but the bed occupies main-floor real estate — which is exactly the problem three extra feet solve.
  • A bed under a picture window is the compensation. If the bed has to live in the main room, giving it a view turns a compromise into the nicest spot in the house.
  • Open shelving keeps a narrow space feeling wide. Upper cabinets close in a 23-foot box; shelves preserve the long sightline that makes it feel larger.
  • Charred-look siding is a maintenance decision. A dark, matte exterior disguises dust, rain streaks, and towing grime that would show on light siding.

That mini sink will be nothing but a water mess all over the floor. It looks like it is a great space saving sink and it is. However, getting your hands and face washed without splashing water all over the floor is nearly impossible.

It can be difficult for some but it is possible to use one without splashing water all over the floor. It’s just not for everyone…
