Sundown Station is Brayden Griffith’s DIY truck camper: a wood-and-aluminum camper built over the bed of a white pickup. Brayden shared it in the DIY Truck Camper Facebook group and says it’s finally far enough along to go get lost.

Fewer Finishes, a Clearer Look
Brayden says he’s stripped away almost all of the shiny extras that didn’t do anything. What’s left is a short list of materials: black vertical members and hardware, weathered boards, stained trim, and an aluminum cap with aluminum accents.
That restraint is the lesson here. A lot of DIY campers end up with a little of everything. Limiting the palette makes a homemade build look intentional, and it also means fewer materials to buy, cut, and maintain.

Working Within the Truck Bed
Everything has to fit in the footprint a pickup already gives you, and a boxy camper will always fight the wind. Brayden jokes that the one thing he’d still like is better aerodynamics. The rear opens with wide board doors, so the whole back of the camper becomes the entry.

Inside the Station
Inside, a warm wood floor runs down a clear center aisle, with storage along both sides and soft lighting overhead. Keeping the middle open makes the small space feel bigger and leaves room to sit, sleep, and move around.

What Makes This Build Special
- A short, deliberate materials list gives the camper a cohesive, rustic look
- Wide rear doors turn the back of the camper into the entry
- An open center aisle keeps a truck-bed camper from feeling cramped
- It’s a real-world DIY build, shared to get feedback from other builders
