The Big Ripper is a full-size slide-in truck camper from Sequoia + Salt, a camper van builder in Manasquan, New Jersey. Like the company’s van builds, it’s meant to be practical rather than flashy. It has an aluminum frame, insulated fiberglass walls, a pop-top that opens to a full-to-king bed, and lithium power with solar already on the roof. It slides into the bed of a standard or long-bed pickup, so the truck stays your daily driver.

Sequoia + Salt calls it the only truck camper built in New Jersey. It’s also unusual because the company publishes every option and every price right on its website, so you can price out a build before you ever pick up the phone.

A Slide-In Made for Full-Size Pickups

The Big Ripper comes in two sizes. The 5.5-foot version fits standard beds like the Ford F-150, Toyota Tundra and Ram 1500, and weighs about 980 pounds dry. The 6.5-foot version is built for long beds like the F-250, F-350 and Ram 2500. It weighs about 1,050 pounds and gives you a bit more room inside. Base prices start around $34,000 for the shorter model and about $34,750 for the longer one. The truck is not included.

Weight is the big question with any slide-in, and Sequoia + Salt deals with it head-on. Before they take a deposit, they check your truck’s payload rating against the weight of the build you’ve configured. If you’re close to the limit, they’ll tell you up front and suggest a rear air suspension upgrade. That’s a step worth insisting on no matter who builds your camper. An overloaded truck is harder to stop, wears out faster and can be unsafe.

A Pop-Top Lounge That Turns Into a Bed

With the roof down, the camper is just 60 inches tall, which helps with wind and gas mileage on the highway. Pop it up and you get 7 feet 1 inch of standing room inside. Safari windows with screens and blackout covers let in light and fresh air.

The cab-over bed measures 54 by 70 inches in its standard layout and expands to 70 by 75 inches. Down below, the lounge has Sunbrella cushions and can convert into a small extra bed (27.5 by 52 inches), so it sleeps two to three adults plus a child. A cassette toilet comes with every build, a must in a camper this size.

Solar and Lithium Power Included

Every Big Ripper comes ready for camping off the grid. The base build includes a 200Ah lithium battery, 400 watts of solar on the roof, an inverter, shore power, outlets and USB charging. That’s enough to run lights, fans, phones and a fridge for a weekend without plugging in.

If you plan to stay out longer, or want to run air conditioning, there’s an Expedition Power upgrade to a 460Ah lithium battery. You can also add an alternator connection that charges the battery while you drive, plus extra roof solar.

Options for Every Season

The base camper is meant for three seasons, but you can add to it. Options include diesel heating for cold weather, a 12-volt Zero Breeze air conditioner, power jacks that level the camper at the push of a button, a premium rain-proof vent fan, overhead gear bags, a roof rack and several rear hitch racks for bikes and cargo. The website’s configurator shows the price of each option as you add it, then sends you a build summary to go over with the team.

Sequoia + Salt has a nationwide delivery network. Your camper ships to a partner installer near you, and professional installation and a system check are included.

What Makes This Build Special

  • Pricing you can see up front. Every option has a published price, so you can compare it to other campers without a sales call.
  • They check payload first. The payload review before a deposit is the step people most often skip when they buy a slide-in.
  • Off-grid power is standard. Solar, lithium and an inverter come with every build, not as add-ons.
  • A low profile on the road. The pop-top drops to 60 inches for driving and opens to over seven feet when you’re parked.
  • Your truck stays a truck. A slide-in comes off when you don’t need it, so your pickup can still do pickup jobs.
