The Alto R1713 from Safari Condo is a small, lightweight travel trailer with a clever trick: its roof rises at the touch of a button. Lowered, the trailer stays short and aerodynamic for towing. At camp, the roof lifts to give you full headroom under a curved band of smoked glass. Built in Saint-Nicolas, Québec, it weighs about 1,949 pounds and sleeps up to four.

Why a Retractable Roof Matters
A tall trailer is comfortable inside but catches a lot of wind on the highway, which hurts fuel economy and makes towing harder. The R1713 solves that by lowering its roof for the road and raising it at camp. That keeps it light and easy to tow with smaller vehicles, while still giving you room to stand and cook. The smoked tempered-glass crescent wraps the front, so the inside feels bright and open.

A Flexible Layout for Two to Four
The rear bed area is extra-large at 72 by 76 inches, and it can also be split into two 27-by-76-inch single beds. Up front, the dinette converts into a 36-by-81-inch single bed. You can still use the front dining area while the rear bed is set up, and moving the table creates two separate dining spaces, including one that seats five.

Kitchen, Toilet, and Off-Grid Power
The kitchenette has a two-burner propane stove, a 4.3-cubic-foot 12-volt compressor fridge, and pull-out shelves. There’s a toilet compartment with a flush toilet and black water tank. Two heated lithium batteries (260Ah total) power the trailer off-grid, and a quiet German-designed system provides both heat and hot water using propane or electricity. The light aluminum chassis has height-adjustable suspension.
