Interview:

What got you into building tiny houses?

Necessity!
My wife and I moved from the city in our early twenties onto a 16-acre block just north of Melbourne with a group of friends wanting to live more sustainably on the land with a strong focus on permaculture, food production, and natural building. We needed somewhere to live that was functional, sustainable, cost-effective, totally off-grid and moveable to adapt to our uncertain living situation. A “Tiny Home” was the answer. Please watch one of the documentaries made about us and our house truck on Youtube or via our website www.evergreenhomesaustralia.com.au . It’s too difficult to describe in words and well worth a closer look into our honest, warm-hearted journey with our business.

What are your future plans for the business?

To continue to stay a small family-run business with a deep passion for sustainability and quality. Creating beautiful, non-toxic, functional homes for clients who are looking for a unique product with a meaningful design collaboration. We aim to focus mainly on tiny home construction moving forward.

How many tiny homes have you built?

I’ve built 10 tiny homes over an 8-year period. Between many natural building projects that consist of strawbale, cob and traditional timber framing. We have also built a lot of ‘conventional’, well-designed buildings, renovations, and extensions. I’ve been working in the building industry for 19 years and am a qualified carpenter.

Tell us about this house. What are the features? Cost?

As I mentioned, My wife and I lived in a tiny house for 7 years and this design is based on what we wished we had lived in. Design based on lived experience is always best.

The model in the pictures is $152,000 with everything that is seen included , couch and all…….

– Sleeps 4 with 2x queen size lofts
– It has a full height step down in the main bedroom with ladder access to the secondary sleeping loft.

– heaps of cupboard space

  1. Love it! I need to ship me one stateside right now! There are so many cupboards in the kitchen, but none blocks a spot where a window might be needed – in fact the whole house is bright and spacious! I might – strictly for my own needs – eliminate some of the kitchen and add it to the living space. While the sofa there is very nice and has a lot of seating area, I would like to have a comfy chair a d side table and some bookcases in the living area – I have far more books than specialty cooking things. BUT, that said, I could move in tomorrow and live happily ever after! Keep up the great work Evergreen!!
