Blake’s Tiny Modern Thoreau Cabin

This is a tiny backyard studio guest room tiny house that reminds me of a modern version of Thoreau’s cabin.

The asking price was $8,800 back when it was listed on eBay. Much like Thoreau’s cabin, there’s no bathroom but you do get a place to sleep, think, read, write, and snack. Pretty cool place to get some time with yourself!

The idea was to have a minimal studio space made from recycled materials. I was able to source most materials for the project from salvage yards. The exterior is composed of a reverse board and batten cladding. The cladding was painted a deep earth tone to blend into the backyard. The interior is made of OSB walls, wood ceilings with exposed beam rafters and stained wood floors. A built in planter was incorporated into the floor to bring some foliage into the small space. The footage is a mere 85 square feet (including the 10 square feet in floor planter).

I would love to see more innovative space usage, but looks like a nice guest house with a good view of the garden.
