Escape eOne XL Wide & Tall: A Second Floor with Near-Standing Headroom

The eOne XL Wide & Tall is ESCAPE’s answer to the single most common complaint about tiny houses: the loft. Most sleeping lofts are a mattress under a slope you cannot sit up in. This build goes wide and tall enough that the upper level reads as an actual second floor — almost standing height, with large windows and a cable rail instead of a claustrophobic crawlspace.

Downstairs is arranged like a small apartment. A large galley kitchen runs along one wall with a laundry center worked into the cabinetry, and the living room carries a full built-in entertainment wall. The bathroom is the giveaway that this is the luxury tier: a tiled shower stall rather than the usual one-piece fiberglass insert, plus a flush toilet and vanity.

What “Wide and Tall” Actually Buys You

  • Height is what makes a loft a room. Going tall enough to nearly stand converts the upper level from storage-you-sleep-in into usable living space.
  • Extra width has to be paid for at the road. Wide units generally exceed the 8.5-ft road-legal limit, meaning permits and an escort to move. Plan to place it once.
  • Tile instead of a fiberglass insert is the honest luxury signal. A tiled shower costs more in labor and waterproofing, and it is the detail that separates tiers within a lineup.
  • Built-ins outperform furniture in small homes. An entertainment wall and a laundry center folded into cabinetry recover floor space freestanding pieces would eat.
