The White Oak Treehouse at Timber Ridge Outpost & Cabins is built 24 feet up in a White Oak that’s more than 210 years old. It’s a real treehouse, wrapped around the trunk with decks and a sleeping loft, but it comes with heat and air conditioning, a bathroom with a shower, and a kitchenette. It’s outside Elizabethtown in southern Illinois, near Shawnee National Forest, and sleeps up to six.

Built Around a 210-Year-Old Oak
Instead of standing on posts beside the tree, the White Oak Treehouse is built into the tree itself, with the trunk and branches part of the design. A staircase climbs to a private entrance and two sitting decks, where you’re right up among the leaves. In winter, the snow-covered branches make it feel like a cabin floating in the woods.

All the Comforts, Up in the Trees
The main floor has a sofa, a dining table, and a kitchenette with a cooktop, a convection microwave, a toaster, a coffee pot, and a refrigerator. Coffee, tea, and basics are provided. A full-size Easy Bed on the main floor adds sleeping space, and there’s high-speed fiber internet and a Roku TV.

A Loft Under the Rafters
Upstairs, the open loft has a queen bed and a full-size mattress under the exposed rafters, with a tree branch right by the railing. The bathroom has a shower and toilet, so there’s no trip down to a bathhouse in the middle of the night.

Campfires and Shawnee National Forest
Down on the ground, there’s a campfire area with firewood and camp chairs provided, plus a grill, a picnic table, and a hammock. The surrounding Shawnee National Forest is known for hiking spots like Garden of the Gods.
