Musician Living in a DIY Camper Van on a Budget

Anthony Roberge is a singer-songwriter from Quebec, Canada who converted a Sprinter van into a budget camper.

He did it so he could travel to shows with all of his gear, and have a free place to sleep afterward.

Anthony’s conversion cost him $1,500 CAD.

He did the build himself and used a lot of reclaimed and reused items to keep his costs low.

Anthony installed a roof vent, a floor, bed, kitchen cabinet, overhead storage, and a reclaimed wood ceiling.

His kitchen setup is really simple: he’s got a small countertop, a propane camping stove, and a jerry can for water.

For showers and bathrooms, he has a membership to a local chain of fitness centers.

He’s been living in his van full-time for over 18 months so far and is spending his second winter in Florida (he spent the first winter in California) to avoid the cold Canadian climate.

He earns money from playing shows in Canada, and from busking, and on average he says his monthly expenses are between $1,000-$1,400 CAD.

It’s a bed in the back of a van. No bathroom facility, no kitchen other than some camp gear thrown in. Calling it a tiny house is a stretch.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about #vanlife and good for him doing his thing. Just a misleading headline/link…
