West of the Summit
The homepage calls it the highest guest lodge in the eastern United States, situated on an open glade just below the summit of Mt. LeConte at an elevation of about 6400 feet. The about page splits the number: Mount LeConte at 6,593 feet, the lodge west of the summit at 6,360. Both lines are printed as of August 27, 2026.
The lodge predates the park. Great Smoky Mountains National Park was established in 1934. This is a summit lodge — the reservation office is in Sevierville, not at the cabins.
Cabins on the Glade
At dusk the cabins sit on the slope — shake roofs, a rail fence, snow in the grass, the ridge going orange. This is the open glade just below the summit.
Daylight is a single rough-hewn log cabin: saddle-notched logs, a shake roof, a stone chimney, a covered porch, a flagstone path. Guests are housed in hand built rough hewn log cabins with propane heat, kerosene lanterns, clean linens and warm Hudson Bay wool blankets.
The Bunks

The 2026 season is booked, but cancellations do occur. Advance-notice wait lists — cancellations more than 30 days out — are now full and closed for the entire season. Short-notice cancellations within 30 days are not filled with a wait list; call 865-429-5704.
