This inspiring couple had a dream to live with their sons off-grid and debt-free, and they made that a reality with their $6,000 tent home on a riverbank in New Mexico!
They’re such an inspiration that Living Big in a Tiny House has done two video interviews with the couple: During this most recent tour we get to see the family’s finished solar set-up, new outdoor shower, and fresh bedroom layout for their 16×20 wood-frame tent cabin.
Enjoy the video tour and be sure to follow the family on Instagram (@denforourcubs) to keep up!

The interior of their tent home is clean and open! Just what you need in a small space.
They cook over an electric stove top and/or their fire pit/grill outdoors.
It’s true: They don’t have running water inside. They have a well that pumps river water which they can haul/run via hose depending on the weather.
Here’s a big closet for a tiny house! But it’s nice to store everything in one larger walk-in space.
The home is surrounded by trees, meaning they can open-air shower without putting on a show.
The fire pit is the central hub for their homestead, Zac — the dad — says.
Mama, Katie, with their two sons Fox and Grizzly.
Their propane heater is enough to keep the tent around 60 during 0-15 degree weather.
Real family time right here. So precious and special!
Could you live in this luxury tent?

I absolutely love this concept! Well done, you guys!
Love the indoor/outdoor lifestyle as well as this couple’s appreciation for what they’ve created. Raising their family with values connected to nature is a wonderful thing, they should be proud of what they’ve done.
I didn’t see the original posting, so I am wondering what their situation is. Is the land theirs? What is the size of the property? Is this a legal full-time dwelling? A delicate area, I only ask because in considering a similar living situation, I can’t think of a place in my area that would allow for a tent house for full time residence, and would love to know how this can be accomplished.
Thank you so much for sharing, this is a beautiful lifestyle.
Hi Mary! I’m not positive about the legality, but I do know they own the property. I would have to watch the first video again and follow more closely to find out about the legal issues!
WOW!! Now that is some serious camping, LOOOOOVE IT!!!!
Agreed!
I need to find the video of the first interview. I’m curious how they found their property? Also, if the canvas is a regular tent or custom. I really like this idea. Much more affordable than a yurt. And can be customized!

Thanksgiving link, Natalie. I’m saving this page for future reference. I’d love to find a piece of property that I could do this on.
