  1. It shows what can be done with a shipping container at reasonable cost.
It’s rugged, rock solid and can withstand hurricanes, Tornados and earthquakes..
I would do a lift up to the ceiling bed instead of a murphy one which narrows the limited space more.
But otherwise it has everything you need for tiny living.
    Well done.

    1. Not sure of future viability, though, there’s presently a 5 fold increase in the cost of container in the shipping market that’s already effecting the cost of products being shipped and if this trend holds then it will likely trickle down to the container conversion market later…

This is partly because the cost of steel has gone up. For example, the price of cold rolled steel went from $635/ton in August 2020 to $1,450/ton in March 2021. It’s increased even further since March and there is no immediate end in sight.

Hopefully, it’s a bubble and won’t last, like the sky high lumber prices of the last year that are finally going down but other options may have to be considered until then…

      1. James, everything went up. I guess in some parts the pandemic is probably used as an excuse.
However, I have my doubts that there will be a shortage on shipping container because shipping cost went up also and it is still more economical to buy an new one instead of shipping an empty container.
Beside that, there are still plenty empty container are sitting and waiting to be re-used.
Not everybody like to live in a steel box and there are other options to use the sitting ones.

Shipping container are manufactured mostly in China and the economy there is designed for mass production and I don’t see that this is going to change shortly.

        1. Didn’t say shortage, I said a 5 fold increase in cost… Even from China, it cost over $14,000 for a 20′ container and it can exceed $25,000 for a 40’… and I pointed out the similar increase in steel that’s driving the cost increase of many products. All of this is happening despite how manufacturing is set up in China!

While older containers aren’t as optimal for converting into homes. There would be a lot more to repair with an older container and less assurance of what it has and hasn’t been exposed to… Removing single use containers from the market is going to have an impact…

Add factors like increased cost of steel will also effect being able to get material to work on the containers and modify them and prolonged higher costs will likely cause more containers to remain in use longer and fewer will be available to the used market, etc.

Again, hopefully just a bubble but it is something that can seriously change the viability of using containers, at least for low cost housing…

  2. That’s actually really cute! It has everything you need in a compact space, yet is still very pretty. Nice job! Price is good, too.
