Meet Nico Murillo, a former Tesla Production Supervisor who turned a life-altering layoff into a 50-state adventure. After losing his job in April 2024, Nico decided to move into his 2021 Tesla Model Y full-time, custom-converting it into what he calls the “World’s First Tesla Van.”

A 50-State Road Trip in a Model Y & Model X
Nico’s conversion is a masterclass in minimalist efficiency. By removing the rear seats and building a custom wooden platform, he has created a livable space complete with a tri-fold mattress, a pantry system, and even a microwave. With his background at the Tesla Fremont factory, he brings a unique perspective to living and traveling in an electric vehicle.
His mission is not just about travel; it’s a journey toward financial independence. By eliminating rent and debt, Nico aims to be “work optional” by 2029, sharing the highs and lows of his nomadic life to inspire others to rethink traditional living arrangements.
