This is a custom Dodge Ram Truck Camper with solar built by Jeremy Tuffli of Tuffli Built.

My name is Jeremy and I built a custom camper shell for my [Dodge Ram]. It is made of western red cedar, douglas fir, birch plywood, and marine grade epoxy for the roof.

I have been checking out your website for inspiration so I thought I would share my own project.

  1. Wow, pretty nice! I like the storage space you get under the bed, but what about a fridge? I don’t see one? Do you just use coolers? What about lights? Or, how bout a heater? I have seen people use their trucks heater on defrost, seems to work but you would use a lot of gas doing it.

Very nice looking, any plans for us to look at?

  2. I made mine flat on the roof so I can slide my small boat on top. It is 5 feet 1 inch wide x 8 feet long x 40 inch high. Made from pine 1 x 6 which I glue up to make the wide side. I then stain it, then clear coat it to make it stand up to the sun. I put solar lights around the inside. I have a small gen to run the hot plate, mic.

    1. Thanks Russell, those plans sound great! I would have to downsize as I have a Toyota Sr-5 king cab. Tacoma model. Right now, I have a small topper in which I put up my cot, leaves space underneath for storage. I also have one of those converters I run from the battery box to the inside, also under the bed. I’m currently in the process of making a small corner table for a t.v. stand. And one fold-out one to eat off of if need be. The space is small, but then, it is only me in there camping at times. So, plenty of space for me for now. I want something nice like you have, only maybe built with aluminum? The lighter the better, you know?

So, thanks again Russell, I may use some of your idea? Hope you don’t mind?

      Dennis

  3. Jeremy, You did a great job building your truck camper!! It looks very cozy in there!! I love the shape of it. You even have some storage underneath which comes in handy. I bet you have lots of fun camping in there. Thanks for sharing!! Carol???

  4. Like this truck camper but I would have the head of the bed at the taller end. Feet don’t need more ‘headroom’ than my head could use.

  6. Nice work. I have the exact same truck and I sleep in the bed of my truck all the time and I’m 6’2, 280. I do it with a few simple modifications .. and from the outside the truck looks like any other truck on the street. A $900 hard tonneau cover, (2) 1x10x8 upright planks to create wheel well stroage, a 1/2 plywood with a 12×12 cutout for a dc fan (endless breeze) cut out in the tailgate, A 32x80x5 foam mattress. For me it’s just enough space to sleep and because the space is so tight with the cover down the fan creates more than enough ventilation – even in the sticky florida summer. I also installed a 1200 watt inverter right over the battery and ran a cable to back that can run a microwave and small power tools.

  7. Your design inspires another idea for me. A very tiny home, just for sleeping that can be used on truck or moved around without a trailer and set on stilts. A wedge design with collapsible walls. The whole thing anchored to the truck bed rails. Something like half a rockwood A-frame.
