Lauren and David wrote to us about the tiny home they bought in Joshua Tree, California, and we couldn’t wait to share it. It’s called Casita Conejo, which means “little rabbit house” in Spanish. It’s a 335-square-foot, two-story home with a whimsical rabbit theme, a balcony looking out over the desert, a private hot tub and a backyard made for stargazing. Today they rent it out as a short-term rental on Airbnb and VRBO. Here’s their story, in their own words.

“We Fell in Love with Casita Conejo”

Here’s how Lauren put it in her note to us:

“My husband and I bought a viral tiny home in Joshua Tree, CA! We fell in love with Casita Conejo because of its unique two-story layout, charming design, and incredible location.”

You can see why. The little white-and-wood house sits on an open desert lot, with the balcony stacked on top and a dark privacy fence around the outdoor spaces.

At night the house glows against a sky that gets very dark out here.

Inside: Surprisingly Spacious for 335 Square Feet

“We couldn’t believe how spacious 335 square feet could feel, with a full-size kitchen downstairs, a queen-size bed upstairs, a walk-in closet, and a balcony overlooking the beautiful desert landscape.”

Downstairs, a leather sofa and patterned rug make a cozy living room, with tall windows and dark curtains.

Beside the staircase there’s a little bistro table for two. Look up and you’ll spot the first bunny: a rabbit mount on the wall above the stairs.

A Full-Size Kitchen Downstairs

The full-size kitchen has black cabinets, a patterned tile backsplash, floating wood shelves, a range, a microwave and a full refrigerator. That’s plenty of room for cooking real meals.

Upstairs: A Queen Bed, a Walk-In Closet and a Balcony

Upstairs is the sleeping level, with a queen-size bed and a walk-in closet. The Airbnb listing describes it as one bedroom with one bed for two guests. A door opens straight onto the balcony and the desert beyond.

Hot Tub, Patio and Stargazing

“Our home has a whimsical rabbit theme that fits right in with Joshua Tree’s funky, quirky personality. From the playful bunny details to the private hot tub, outdoor patio, and backyard stargazing, Casita Conejo feels like a little dollhouse in the desert.”

The covered patio has slatted walls for privacy and a pair of lounge chairs facing the sunset.
