No van? No problem. Instead of waiting for the “perfect” van or RV, Tee decided to work with what she already had: her 2005 Nissan Maxima. Over about two months, she turned the silver sedan into a stealthy, road-ready home on wheels, complete with a sleeping platform, solar power, and a fridge hidden under the floor. CheapRVliving visited Tee to tour the build in a video titled “The MOST AMAZING CAR Build I’ve Ever Seen!”

Working with the Car She Already Had

While researching car living ideas, Tee came across Autumn’s Nissan Sentra build on CheapRVliving and was inspired to create something similar in her own sedan. The beauty of a car build is that it’s stealthy. From the outside, the Maxima looks like any other car in a parking lot.

A Thule cargo box on Yakima crossbars adds storage up top, keeping gear out of the living space inside.

A Sleeping Platform with a Hidden Fridge

Inside, Tee built a carpeted sleeping platform that runs back from the rear doors. Her cleverest trick is underneath: a 12-volt fridge sits hidden below the floor of the platform. That’s the hardest part of any car build, since a fridge usually eats up precious space, and she found a way to keep cold food without giving up room to sleep.

On the platform, there’s room to sit up and relax on her bedding. Rechargeable fans clip to the doors for airflow on warm nights, and patterned window covers add privacy.

Power, Comfort, and the Essentials

For power, Tee uses a portable power station with flexible and portable solar panels, enough to run her fridge, fans, lights, and devices without hooking up anywhere. Her setup also covers the basics of daily life in a car: a telescoping portable toilet, rinse-free bathing wipes, and a rechargeable solar lantern.
