AJ & John owned a farm in Indiana and lived there with their four children for 10 years before deciding it was time to pull up their roots and travel. They had considered bus life when AJ was pregnant with their 3rd child, but ultimately chose to wait until their kids were older before becoming nomads.

John is a carpenter and managed to convert their bus in just 3.5 months, making sure to complete the whole thing before they hit the road since they had been renovating their farmhouse for a decade! The family has plans to stay on the road for about 6 months and then convert another bus to make money and then hit the road again. Enjoy the tour!

This awesome family of five finished their bus conversion in February 2023, and have spent the cold winter months on the road. They can return to their home base in Central NY during the summer, where they work and save up money again for another long-term trip.

They did the entire bus build without accruing any debt, just spending the extra that they had on what they could afford. It took them about 2 years, doing all the work themselves, to create their bus home. Enjoy the photo tour and be sure to read the Q&A we did with them below!

Megan and Landon work as wedding photographers and videographers while traveling in their self-converted skoolie with an 18-inch roof raise! It feels incredibly spacious inside, even while they share it with their 15-month-old toddler.

The toddler has a really cool set-up, with a pull-out closet filled with tiny clothes on tiny hangers, and a bed/crib set up to keep him cozy and safe. The front of the bus is perfect for hanging out with friends and welcoming guests. What is your favorite feature?

While you might be able to fathom having a family with toddlers in a skoolie, you might think it can’t be done with teens and tweens — but this family of 5 has proved otherwise! They have a 14, 11, and 10-year-old and have been on the road now for three years after downsizing from a 270

Their IncrediBus has a super unique layout, with one bunkbed over the cab (there’s a two-foot roof raise), two couches that fold into a king bed, and then a back teen room that’s been wonderfully decorated with pictures and posters. There’s an awesome Q&A with the family that you can read after the photo tour of their rig!

Tyler and Juniper lived a minimalist life in Hawaii (Tyler even did mini-van life), and weren’t interested in paying rent when they got back to the mainland. While expecting baby Atlas, they decide to buy and renovate a shuttle bus.

Their budget-friendly build used tons of recycled and repurposed materials. They even kept an old bench seat to provide seating for Juniper and Atlas while Tyler drives. Enjoy the tour below.

Well, we have never seen this before! A double-decker coach bus turned into a full-time home for a family of 8. This dad was tired of missing out on his kids’ childhoods chasing money to pay for the “good life.” After a family vacation to Utah, he and his wife decided to take his software work remotely and find a way to travel full-time.

So they bought a double-decker coach bus and with the help of a professional company turned it into the most incredible home complete with 6 bunk beds, a convertible bed/bedroom for mom & dad, two bathrooms, and one shower! While the video below shows off the home before they started their cross-country tour, Instagram reveals they’ve been loving #buslife since this was shot.

Jenn was running a grooming business, working 60-70 hours a week. Kyle was staying home with their three kids and constantly shuffling them from school to sports to activities. They were fed up with the rat race and decided it was time for something new. A year later, they had moved into their awesome coach bus tiny home.

The bus has a large kitchen area, oodles of power and plenty of undermount storage for tools, water and all the extras. They have a special gaming space set up for the their son, bunks for the kids and a residential King-sized bed where the family can all hang out and have movie night. What a cool family.

There’s no chance of this family being caught without power! Dad Derek got the wild idea to move his wife and two young kids into a school bus, and he pulled out all the stops with his brilliantly-designed solar system, fold-down bench seat for safe car seat travel, and large IKEA-mattress-sized bunks for his littles to grow into.

They have a big kitchen with some cool dual-drawers that hide knives from little fingers, and an awesome toy/book drawer. Raising their kids on the road has given them amazing opportunities, and they look forward to “road-schooling” for years to come.
