Empty Nesters Downsize into a Tiny House

This post contains affiliate links.

Twila and her husband were ready to downsize after their children left the nest, and Incredible Tiny Homes seemed like the perfect option. Not only could they have a professional home built, they could put it in the “Forest” tiny house community for only $250/month! Altogether, their monthly living expenses are under $350/month, which is just unheard of these days.

The simple home floor plan starts with the cozy living room and then moves into the kitchen space with an adjacent 3/4 bathroom. The stairs to the loft are at the back of the home, and have a sneaky “break apart” section so they can remove their washer/dryer if they ever need to! The dormer allows for some extra headroom and light in their loft bedroom.

The interior is all pine, with a loft bedroom.

They have a dormer on one side for light and extra space.

They added a couple of sheds, including this one for grilling.

Highlights:

  • Twila and her husband had raised their kids and were left with a big empty house. Downsizing to a tiny home wasn’t quite on Twila’s mind, but after finding Incredible Tiny Homes, she was sold!
  • They live in the “Forest” part of the Incredible Tiny Homes village. They have a lovely partially-wooded lot.
  • The living room is just inside the door, and they have a mini woodstove in case the fire goes out. A mini-split provides supplemental heat.
  • While many people dislike them, the couple chose a loft bedroom and enjoy the cozy space.
  • There’s a compact bathroom with a 36″ shower stall, which Twila thinks is the perfect size.

Absolutely agree, Marsha. I love this so much. Reminds me of tiny houses of years ago: just what they need and nothing that they don’t. ☺️. Hope all is well with you.

Very enjoyable tour. The house and outbuildings are all very well planned. Looks like a great place to live!
