Single-Level Retirement Tiny Home in Colorado Village

Ken and Laurel were retiring and wanted to simplify their lives, but they also wanted a custom home that met all their needs and design tastes. They found Colorado-based Rocky Mountain Tiny Homes and worked with Ricky to design a gooseneck THOW that’s perfect for them.

The house has a huge kitchen with full-sized appliances, a comfortable gooseneck bedroom that’s just a couple of steps up, and a large living room where they can relax. Best of all, they live in the Escalante Village in Colorado among a variety of like-minded folks of all ages — proof that downsizing doesn’t mean giving up community.

A Custom 10-Foot-Wide Gooseneck Built for Retirement

At just 10 feet wide, this single-level home lives much larger than its footprint suggests. Working directly with the builder let Ken and Laurel tailor every detail to how they actually live day to day.

A Full U-Shaped Kitchen with Room to Cook

Rather than squeeze in a tight galley, Ken and Laurel opted for a full U-shaped kitchen — a smart move for two people who love to cook. Wrapping full-sized appliances and counters around three walls gives them generous prep space and storage without crowding the open living area.

An Easy-Access Gooseneck Bedroom

Because this is a single-level layout, there’s no loft ladder to climb. The bedroom sits in the gooseneck over the trailer’s hitch and is reached by just a couple of steps — an ideal setup for comfortable aging in place while still making the most of every inch.

A Greenhouse Window for Light and Plants

One of the home’s most charming touches is a greenhouse window that floods the space with natural light and gives the couple a sunny spot to keep herbs and plants thriving year-round.

This is one of my favorite tiny homes. I love everything about the design of the home. The shape of the kitchen is amazing. Galley kitchens, while often a tiny home necessity, have never been a favorite of mine. Being able to walk around the bed? Excellent. I could keep listing everything about the home, but I’ll leave it at what a fabulous tiny home. Thank you for sharing a look at it!
