Chris told his grandmother as a kid that he wanted to grow up and live in the woods with his dog — and for the past 11 years, that’s more or less what he has done! He’s had two vans and a Class A RV before deciding to build his dream rig school bus conversion.
The bus offers a much sturdier design than his former RV, allowing him to use high-quality materials so his home will stand the test of time. He has a roof-top deck with flip-up railings, a perfectly functional kitchen, a large comfortable bedroom, and a bathroom without compromise. What do you think of his setup?

Max & Miranda shoot elopements for 6 months of the year, and spent the rest of it traveling Australia in their self-converted Toyota Coaster! Today they’re here to tell us all about how they got into #buslife…
We purchased a Toyota Coaster bus and converted it into a motorhome. We live in it for 6 months of the year and travel around Australia during those months, the other 6 months we base ourselves in South Australia for work.

Cruz and Mariah first went tiny back when Cruz was commuting long distances for his construction work. Living in an RV allowed him to have more time at “home” with Mariah since he could park close to the construction sites. But it still didn’t allow them to travel much.
That’s when they decided to sell the RV, buy a bus, and convert it into an awesome tiny home. Mariah figured out how to take her side hustle of painting portraits and make it into her full-time job! Now that they have remote work, the couple can go anywhere and see everything.

Travis and Michelle first hit the road in their original converted school bus back in 2016 when they were going to visit their daughter. They met other skoolie folks and attended other tiny house festivals and started to feel the tug to jump all-in instead of just doing the occasional trip.
When lockdown hit, it was the final push to get them on the road. They were able to work remotely, their kids had moved out, and they were renting a home they no longer really “needed.” Eventually, they built out their current bus, the Big Blue Hauler, and jumped in full-time! Oh, and during all of this, they founded Skoolie Swarm which now welcomes hundreds of skoolies each year.

Brian self-converted his “Wazabus” (was-a-bus) and it accidentally became his full-time job! Others were so impressed they started asking him to work on their rigs, and he was able to quit his old job and do this while traveling around the country. He even has a dedicated “tool shed” on the back of the bus with everything he could need to complete a conversion.
Besides that, he created the coolest rooftop deck with built-in bench seating and a propane fire pit! Inside the bus, live edge countertops steal the show, especially with the resin river Brian put in the middle. He has a dedicated office space, a comfortable couch, and even a bathroom. Jannia and Korbyn “didn’t know nothing about nothing” when it came to building a school bus home, but when their globetrotting days came to a sudden halt in 2020, they decided it was time to check “bus life” off their bucket list.
The couple married in Thailand and spent five months in lockdown in Denmark (where Jannia’s family lives) and couldn’t go to Prague like they had planned. So they came to the U.S., bought a bus, and spent months making it into an artsy skoolie complete with two office spaces, a comfy bed, and a wet bathroom. Now that borders are open again, the couple travel wherever the wind takes them, knowing they have a home base in the States whenever they want to return. What do you think of their build?

Wess had the travel bug as a young adult but chose parenthood first. When his boys were getting older, he decided to think about tiny living/travel again and that’s when he stumbled across the school bus that he bought to turn into a house (before they were really Instagram-popular). As a metalworker, he had the skills necessary to build a school bus just how he wanted — and he did!
He spent three years on the road traveling in his conversion before settling in Witchita where he does metalwork for other people’s rigs. His home includes an awesome collection of found-item artwork, a mosaic tub, and tons of beautiful woodworking. Enjoy the tour!

If you’ve been following #skoolies for awhile, you’ll know that converting a school bus is a lot of work! What if you could get one that’s mostly complete? While this bus does need some updates (a few cracked windows and mechanical issues), the roof is raised and the interior looks stunning.
You’ll find an L-shaped kitchen, breakfast bar looking out the windows, a private toilet room and a glass shower that separates the spacious bedroom from the rest of the house. There are more details below the pictures!

Sarah had been dreaming of a nomadic lifestyle since she was 14-years-old, but it took crashing her beloved JEEP to push her into making it a reality. With the insurance money from the accident, she was able to get a jumpstart on her school bus conversion.
Originally she thought of dealing with the lower bus height, but then had the brilliant idea to attach a boat to the roof in order to give her space. A lot of putty and FlexSeal later and her “Adobe Casita” tiny home was really coming together! Enjoy getting to meet her in the tour below.
