Rolling Bear’s Panda Bear: A Solo Retreat Lodge from About $88K

The Panda Bear is Rolling Bear Tiny Homes’ solo retreat lodge—a striking black, teal, and half-log cabin built on a 21-by-9-foot trailer and aimed at the writer, artist, or quiet soul who wants a peaceful British Columbia hideaway, wrapping a cozy bedroom, a sitting room flooded with light from huge windows, a butcher-block kitchenette, and a deluxe shower bathroom into a smartly arranged footprint that’s priced to start from around $88,000.

A Lodge Built for One

Part of Rolling Bear’s Lodge series, the Panda Bear is designed as a solo retreat—a calm, self-contained space for people who want to disappear into the scenery to write, make art, or simply unplug. The Surrey, British Columbia builder leans on its seasoned, Red Seal–certified tradespeople here, and although it’s a retreat meant to settle into a property or resort, it’s built on a trailer, which keeps placement flexible. The striking exterior—black board-and-batten and teal panels over a band of golden half-log siding—makes it read as a designed cabin rather than a generic shed.

A Sitting Room Full of Light

The living area is the heart of the Panda Bear, and big windows on multiple walls keep it bright and connected to the outdoors. Warm shiplap pairs with a reclaimed wood-tile accent wall behind the windows, and a comfortable armchair makes an easy reading nook—the kind of spot a solo retreat lives or dies by. It feels intentional and restful, not cramped.

A Compact, Capable Kitchen

For a one-person lodge, the kitchen does real work. A butcher-style counter runs alongside a black composite sink and a cooktop, with open shelving above and a cedar barn door nearby concealing the bathroom. It’s a well-equipped kitchenette that keeps cooking simple without feeling like an afterthought.

Your Choice of Staircase

One of the Panda Bear’s nicer touches is choice: Rolling Bear lets you pick between a sculptural spiral iron staircase or a cabinet (boxed-step) staircase to reach the upper level. The unit shown wears the black spiral stair, which saves precious floor space and adds a bit of architecture next to the kitchen and the cedar barn door to the bath.

A Lofted Upper Level

Up top, the lofted space is finished with a warm cedar-plank ceiling, a reclaimed wood-tile accent, and windows that pull in light and views—flexible room for sleeping, a studio, or storage depending on how you use the lodge. Combined with the main-floor bedroom, it gives a solo dweller room to spread out.
