Her Book-Filled Tiny Home

Lee has always loved small spaces, even living aboard a sailboat for a time, but she ultimately chose a conventional home while raising her daughter to give her a stable childhood. For 15 years, she planned the perfect empty-nester space, including a room for her daughter “just in case.” And good thing she did! Even though her daughter said she’d never live tiny, in 2020, she moved in and fell in love with tiny living.

For Lee, a bibliophile, it was of utmost importance that she have enough space for her books — and that she does! Her walls are lined with bookshelves, and she’s surrounded by the things she loves. Enjoy the tour of this beautiful home below.

She’s Been Dreaming of This Home for 15 Years!

Her books cover nearly every wall in her tiny space!

Her loft bedroom is over the U-shaped kitchen.

She loves her little shelf behind the sink for plants.

VIDEO: You may think this is just a tiny home, but wait till you see inside!

Highlights:

  • Lee has always loved small spaces and even lived in a sailboat for some time! But she wanted her daughter to grow up having a “normal” life, so she moved into a regular home.
  • She’s been planning her tiny house for the past 15 years, designing it to include her massive library (although she did pare it down significantly).
  • Although her grown daughter had said she would never stay in the tiny house, Lee built it with two lofts. In 2020, her daughter had to live there and fell in love with tiny living!
  • She chose a Japanese soaking tub for her bathroom. Luxurious!
  • Even though she installed a microwave and a washer/dryer machine, she never uses either! They’re now a cupboard and a shelf, respectively.

I love this house! I am a book lover too, and feel most at home in a place that has shelves filled with them.
The kitchen is a perfect size and layout. A cockpit! Everything within reach, no hiking from the fridge to the stove. I have a kitchen that is like this and wouldn’t trade it for more room.
Lee, I love the joy that comes through you as you show your beautiful home, it is vibrantly colorful and alive! Thank you for sharing it with us.

Lee, I love your house. I, too, love books and had to give/sell when I moved to a retirement community. I kept the most important books and hope to have that place that is just right for me soon. Your place is very inspiring and I am happy that it makes you happy. Blessings, Patty

Very nice. I too am a book lover and obsessed with reading. I can’t go a day without reading. I’m a book worm and proud of it. Would love to live there.

I appreciate people who appreciate books. Books are like old friends we can drag out from time-to-time to revisit, if only for a little while.

I have wondered how I would deal with my books in a tinyhouse.  I have about 60 shelf-feet of books.  (Mine are mostly data books, manuals, and technical text books though, plus a dozen or two books on natural health.)  I’ve thought maybe the ones I seldom access could go in narrow isles of shelving, either at one end of the tinyhouse, or in a separate storage trailer.
