The Retreat from Capri Camper is a simple, lightweight slide-in truck camper with a hard-sided cab-over design. It gives you a 60″ x 80″ cab-over bed, a galley, a dinette, and standing room inside, and it’s made to fit everything from midsize pickups to full-size trucks with 8-foot beds. It’s one of the more affordable hard-sided truck campers we’ve featured.

A Cab-Over Camper That Fits Most Trucks

The Retreat comes in versions for 8-foot, 6.5-foot, and 5.5-foot truck beds, plus a midsize version. Even the largest weighs only about 1,375 pounds dry, and the midsize version is about 950 pounds, so it can work with trucks that can’t handle a heavy camper. You choose the exterior color and striping.

A Bright, Simple Interior

Inside, there’s room to stand (Capri lists about 6’4″ of standing height in the full-size versions). The cab-over holds a 60″ x 80″ bed, and the living space has a galley with Formica counters, a Lagun table dinette with cushions, cabinets, and wood-grain flooring. Four sliding windows with screens and a full set of blackout shades let in light and air, and a back door with a screen opens to the outdoors.

The base Retreat includes a 100Ah AGM battery with a charge controller, 110V, 12V, and USB outlets, LED lighting and a porch light, a 12V fan, an LP gas and CO/smoke alarm, and a fire extinguisher. There’s a 30-amp shore power plug with a 15-amp adapter, and an external Zamp solar port so you can add portable solar.

What It Costs

Capri lists the 2026 Retreat at $18,995 for the base camper, with a waitlist of about 4 to 6 weeks (checked October 24, 2026). The base price covers the shell, cab-over bed, cabinets, dinette, battery, and lighting. Many things people expect in a camper are options, so a typical build costs more. Some of Capri’s listed option prices:

  • Sink and faucet: $995
  • Cooktop: $435
  • 12V/110V refrigerator: $1,395 (2.4 cu. ft.) or $1,895 (3.5 cu. ft.)
  • Roof-mount A/C: $1,395
  • Inside or outside shower: $1,795
  • Lithium battery upgrade: $795 for one 100Ah battery
  • North/south king bed extension: $995

Capri also builds the simpler Cowboy model from $13,995.

Before You Buy

  • Check your payload: the 8-foot Retreat is about 1,375 lbs dry but about 1,795 lbs loaded, per Capri. Compare that with your truck’s payload sticker, not just its towing rating.
  • Measure your bed: full-size versions need 48″ between the wheel wells, and the midsize version needs 39″.
  • Standing height: 6’4″ in the full-size versions, but 6′ in the midsize.

What Makes This Camper Special

  • A hard-sided camper at an approachable price.
  • Light enough for many midsize and half-ton trucks.
  • Standing room and a full-size cab-over bed.
  • Customizable colors and interior finishes.
