Do you remember David Rule’s tiny house that he started building last summer? Well, he finished it for a total of $15,000! And he documented the entire thing in a recap video below, which might be the most entertaining tiny house video I’ve ever watched.

The result is an entirely off-grid home he built all by himself despite having no prior experience in any trade. It has a little wet bath and compact kitchenette; upstairs, there’s a cozy loft with a skylight. Please grab a cup of coffee and enjoy his video below.

Some of the most livable tiny houses are the ones that solve a single problem really well. For the Sunshine Cottage — a roughly 25-foot gooseneck tiny house on wheels built by a contractor in south Texas — that problem is the loft. Instead of a ladder and a crawl-in sleeping nook, this home uses its gooseneck (the raised platform that extends over a truck bed) to create a true standing-room bedroom you can walk into and stand up in.

Originally used as a backyard guest house, the Sunshine Cottage is a great example of how much comfortable, full-time-ready living you can fit into a small, budget-friendly footprint. Inside you’ll find a compact all-electric kitchen, a flexible living and office area, a full bathroom with a shower and flush toilet, and warm pine paneling throughout. Let’s take a closer look at how it all comes together — and the design lessons you can borrow for your own build.

Carmen and Bill downsized from a 5,000-square-foot home to this 400-square-foot custom tiny house on wheels for retirement. The design includes two bathrooms, a mudroom, an expansive kitchen with a half dishwasher, and distinctive arched architectural features throughout. Underneath the standing-height loft bedroom is what they call the “basement”—a space configured as an indoor gym. An office area in the bedroom overlooks the arched details that define the home’s character. The tiny house is parked at one of the Incredible Properties communities in Tennessee.

It’s always amazing how much more spacious the 10-foot-wide tiny homes feel compared to the 8-foot-wide ones, and this “Big Bertha” from Indigo River Tiny Homes is no exception. You especially feel it in the U-shaped kitchen on the far end of the tiny home.

The primary bedroom is a loft with standing room around the bed, and the second loft is split to allow two kids to have their own space. Finally, a couch doubles as a hide-a-bed for any guests. Do you like this layout?
