Brandon and Sarah started their on-the-water life about four years ago, by completely renovating an old 225-square-foot houseboat they have moored in North Carolina. While they loved that first home, it was time for an upgrade! The maximum size they were allowed was a 360 square foot living space and 400 square feet of deck — so that’s what they did.

Now they have a bedroom with space to walk around the bed, a loft bedroom for guests, more counterspace, and a breathtaking two-basin copper sink! There’s even a 100-gallon stock tank bathtub in the bathroom where they can relax after a long day of work. Could you live on the water like this?

This is an incredible round floating tower cottage on a lake in Joncherey, France. It’s part of a larger community of eco-friendly habitats that share a lovely “lodge” on the shore with a spa and full bathrooms.

The floating home is reminiscent of “Swiss Family Robinson,” with rustic railings made from limbs and an all-wooden interior. There is a little bathroom on the first floor, and the second floor houses a queen bed. The deck area wraps around the house, providing a comfortable spot to enjoy nature and a mug of coffee.

This is a tiny floating chapel cottage near Sarasota, Florida. It’s right on the Manatee River out of Palmetto, Florida which is just north of Sarasota and is available to book via Glamping Hub.

Seems like it would be a really fun and one-of-a-kind place to stay. Not exactly tiny, but can still fit snuggly right into the small category. I sure wouldn’t mind getting to go see it in person someday! How about you?

Russ had always loved living in small spaces and even spent five years working on cruise ships. He had been dreaming of narrowboat life for about a decade when he finally took the plunge and bought his boat — he had a professional outfit the interior and let’s just say it’s one of the most stunning narrowboat conversions I’ve seen!

Everything inside is sleek and chic, with a guest berth and back cabin that’s perfect for relaxing after a hard day of work. It has a stove inside to keep the place toasty and good space to work from home if needed. Make sure to read our Q&A with Russ after the photo tour.

Katharina and her husband purchased this 1960s home that was once a holiday property and hadn’t been updated since it was built. While living in it, the couple has done a fantastic job taking it from old to new, while still retaining (or adding) so much charm to the building.

There are exposed beams, a hardwood floor, a lovely full kitchen in the corner, and a bedroom with a cozy bed alcove. The special artist studio is the icing on the cake!  Read Katharina’s story about her home below the photo tour.

Remember the Silver Pearl houseboat on Airbnb that Alex showed off last week? Genevieve and her husband own that boat, but also live off-grid in their very own floating home called the “Island Gypsy.”

Before they invested in a vacation property, they moved into the Island Gypsy — she felt like were “cheating” being hooked up to shore power, so they figured out how to create an off-grid home and have been living that way for a few years!

She sent us a beautiful description of their life on the water, which you can read after the photo tour of their houseboat. Enjoy!
