Expanding Fold-A-Mansion Tiny House in Costa Rica by Larry Windes

This “Fold-A-Mansion,” or “FAM” for short, is the amazing design of architect Larry Windes. He built the expanding, fold-out home on a trailer in Costa Rica, where it’s available for short-term rentals or for sale (without the land).

When unfolded, the small home boasts a ground-floor and upstairs bedroom. Because of the lifted roof, you can stand upright in the loft! There’s a functioning kitchen and luxurious bathroom as well. You can buy it for $130,000. What do you think of this innovative design?

Little confused…love that there is a downstairs bedroom, but it didn’t look to be private…is I right by the LR/kitchen and there no doors to it?

It is a tropical climate in Costa Rica… Proper air flow, humidity management, etc. are more important in warmer climate zones, not every form of architecture can be just closed off and isolated without negative consequences, and it’s only a guest house intended for short term rentals and can be set up in fairly remote locales…

Wow, it looks amazing although the color scheme isn’t my thing. It would be interesting to learn about wall, roof structure, weight, measures and expanding mechanism.
